Allure Condos were built here in the 2000s. The other Sahara Ave-facing apartments were demolished and replaced with a retail strip mall that contained Tony Spilotro’s Gold Rush Ltd. In the early 70s, the corner apartment building was converted into the Library Restaurant. The street was renamed Sahara Ave in ‘63. This was the only development on West San Francisco until the opening ofįrancisco Square shopping mall (Bonanza Gift Shop) in ‘59 and Lucky Shopping Center (location of Golden Steer) in ‘60. Ideally located, across the street 1 block West of the Sahara Hotel, 72 spacious apartments – completely furnished or unfurnished. The apartments opened late ‘53 and were being called Robinson by early ‘55. West San Francisco Ave was platted in the late ‘20s with the original 16 blocks of Meadows Addition, aka “Naked City.” The street was not developed until 1953 when a 2-block section was paved to accommodate this apartment complex.
